Yamamoto® Nutrition Carnitine 1000 is a Carnitine food supplement in 1000 mg tablets (Carnitine tartrate), useful in case of reduced dietary intake of this nutrient.

Carnitine is the vitamin-like compound responsible for transporting long-chain fatty acids into the energy-producing units of the cell: the mitochondria.
Its importance lies in the fundamental role it plays in the transport of fatty acids into the mitochondria. Since the fatty acid carrier molecule, acyl-CoA, cannot cross the mitochondrial membrane, a carnitine deficiency causes a reduction in the concentration of fatty acids in the mitochondria and, consequently, reduced energy production.

Fatty acids must be transferred from CoA to carnitine. The acyl-carnitine molecule transports the fatty acid to the mitochondrial surface of the inner mitochondrial membrane, where it is released to be converted into energy (fat is "burned").

Carnitine performs many other physiological functions, including the conversion of the ketoacid analogues of the branched-chain amino acids valine, leucine, and isoleucine, a function that is extremely important during fasting, starvation, and exercise.
