Dandelion 100ml YAMAMOTO
It's a plant that used to be quite common in our meadows and countryside, so much so that we no longer pay attention to it, almost considering it just another "weed" among the many that grow wild. However, the dandelion, also known as "dandelion," "dandelion flower," "yellow star," or "priest's crown," has a history of use in traditional medicine that dates back centuries. Its name "dandelion" comes from its distinctive shape, the jagged edges of its leaves vaguely reminiscent of a feline's teeth, with long, lanceolate leaves with serrated edges. It's known for the unique characteristic that after flowering, a small, soft, round flower composed of many achenes forms at the top of the stem, which every child remembers blowing on at some point in their lives.
In past centuries, it was considered a purifying remedy par excellence (along with other applications related to wound healing and its ability to stimulate diuresis), a quality later confirmed by studies in modern phytotherapy. Even in ancient traditional Chinese medicine, dandelion is used to support the purifying function and stimulate urinary tract cleansing. In many ancient medical texts, dandelion was also recommended for treating infections, skin problems such as eczema, and joint pain. Even today, in phytotherapy, Dandelion is a natural remedy well known for its purifying action, and the leaves in particular are used to aid kidney function as a good draining agent against water retention, as well as being a digestive aid . Its fame, in fact, derives from the fact that its root has interesting purifying properties, as it stimulates bile, liver and kidney function, that is, it activates our "excretory organs" (liver, kidneys, skin) responsible for the transformation (and subsequent disposal) of toxins through feces, urine, or sweat.
These beneficial effects on the body derive from its unique composition of elements, including triterpene alcohols (tarasserol), plant sterols, inulin (especially in the latex), bitter principles (tarassacin), and mineral salts (high potassium content), which give the plant tonic and digestive properties. However, the root contains the greatest concentration of active ingredients, including vitamins A, B1, B2, B3, C, E, K, alpha- and beta-carotene, beta-cryptoxanthin, lutein and zeaxanthin, calcium, sodium, iron, phosphorus, potassium, magnesium, zinc, and selenium, tannins, flavonoids, caffeic and coumaric acids. Taraxacin, in particular, stimulates the production of saliva, gastric and pancreatic juices, and bile, facilitating gallbladder emptying. It also contains inulin, a prebiotic fiber that nourishes bacterial flora and improves intestinal transit, providing an effective yet gentle laxative effect. Dandelion's renowned draining action is provided by flavonoids and potassium salts, which act on the kidneys by stimulating urine production and the drainage of excess fluids, a welcome addition to women with swollen legs, cellulite, and water retention.
This "pool" of highly purifying, anti-inflammatory, and detoxifying substances contained in dandelion is the panacea for which it has been renowned throughout centuries of traditional medicine. These bioactive components promote the elimination of waste products (sugars, triglycerides, cholesterol, and uric acid), making dandelion a "hepatoprotective" plant, highly recommended for liver failure, jaundice, and gallstones. Dandelion contains taraxacin, a bitter compound that stimulates the gallbladder to contract, increasing bile flow and thus boosting detoxification. Its secretory stimulant action is not limited to bile, but stimulates the secretions of all the glands of the gastrointestinal tract (saliva, gastric, pancreatic, and intestinal juices), as well as the muscles of the digestive tract, mildly promoting a secondary laxative effect.
*Dandelion is contraindicated in cases of gastritis, ulcers, and in those predisposed to hypotension. Interactions have been reported with certain medications, such as diuretics, and it should be noted that it may interact with NSAIDs (nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs). Anyone undergoing these therapies should always consult their doctor before taking any other supplements.
